What is Solar Wind?
To clarify that "Solar Wind" actually is, and because is not directly related to the purpose of this website .... this page was developed for informational purposes only.
The Sun is constantly throwing off "charged particles" and these particles are known as SOLAR WIND. And it is at its strongest when sunspot activity is at its height. Sunspots are dark areas on the surface of the sun. These area of cooler gas occur when the sun's magnetic field blocks the flow of heat from the core of the sun.
When the Solar Wind reaches the Earth's magnetic field, the charged particles interact with gases in the atmosphere 6 miles or 10 km above the surface of the Earth.
This interaction causes the particles to send out brilliant light, which is seems from the Earth as an amazing "LIGHTSHOW". It is most visible from the North Pole and the South Pole regions.
In the Northern Hemisphere, it is known as the Aurora Borealis. And it is known as the Aurora Australis in the Southern Hemisphere.
