Active Solar Energy
Active Solar Energy uses mechanical and electrical devices to extract the 'solar power' from the sun's rays. It is the opposite of it counterpart, Passive Solar Power. The goal is to convert solar power into heat (for use now and for storage of heat), light, and for actively moving air for ventilation purposes to either heat or cool an area.
Most commonly used equipment for Active Solar Power systems are fans and pumps. For example, active solar water heaters use pumps to circulate water or an antifreeze solution through heat-absorbing solar thermal collectors. Note: As discussed in "Passive Solar Power", the Solar Hot Water Systems based on the "thermo-siphon" is passive energy.
